Dr. Rajiv Deshmukh, the surgeon whose fingers wield a paintbrush with the same dexterity as they do the scalpel, frequently ventures out of his operation theatre into much more peaceful surroundings... Nature's gorgeous theatre.
After a brilliant academic career, Rajiv Deshmukh set up his hospital and Centre for Laparoscopic Surgery in a picturesque lane near Kamala Nehru Park. A keen badminton player and swimmer, as well as a committed Rotarian, Dr Deshmukh has nonetheless found the time to develop his inborn talent for sketching, drawing, and ultimately, painting.

 

When asked how he finds the time to pursue this hobby, he puts it quite simply; "Just as you don't need to find time for your loved ones, you don't need to find time for your hobby. For me, it is a welcome relief from work pressures, and brings me peace of mind"
"Serenity is all around us if only we use all our senses," he says. He goes on "We should see, not just look, and rediscover the charm of verdant trees or a quaint path up a hillside; listen to the rhythm of waves on the sea, or even a rustic marketplace; relax in the touch of the breeze as it caresses the brow; savour the taste of the melting snow on a peak; be entranced by the intoxicating fragrance of a flower at dawn."

In this eclectic collection of canvasses, Rajiv Deshmukh has attempted to give expression to the many forms of serenity he has seen and experienced. A major influence in Dr. Deshmukh's artistic endeavours has been the doyen of artist, Shri Ravi Paranjape, who recognized his raw talent and thought processes and encouraged him to create canvasses in watercolours and oil pastels.
